InterHealth Canada Limited, based in Toronto, provides the full spectrum of healthcare services to the international market. The company is unusual among international healthcare providers; having been established as a private and "for profit" company, its shareholders include both private sector companies and leading public sector institutions from across Canada - major teaching hospitals, leading universities and large hospital groups covering all aspects of modern healthcare.

The company was incorporated in 1994 on the initiative of the then Provincial Government of Ontario, in partnership with a number of large Public hospitals and private companies, as a vehicle for the export of Canadian healthcare expertise; that objective and structure is maintained to this day.

Turks & Caicos islands Project

On the 11th January 2008, Interhealth Canada was awarded the project to build and operate two new hospitals for the Government of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The project represents a long term commitment to develop two, modern, full service hospitals and, through these, to set up and operate a modern secondary care service to the population of the Islands.

The two Centres will be built with a total capacity of 60 beds being 20 beds on the island of Grand Turk, the capital and seat of government, and 40 beds on Providenciales, the most populated of the Turks and Caicos Islands. To allow for initial requirements and future development, only half of these beds will be commissioned during the construction process and a further 30 beds fitted out as the population grows. The design concept also allows for further future expansions as necessary.

Within the full service criteria both Centres will have a range of services including but not limited to:

  • 24/7 Emergency Room,
  • State-of-the-art Operating Theatres,
  • Diagnostic Imaging,
  • Labour / Delivery / Recovery / Post-partum Maternity Suites,
  • Dialysis suites,
  • Blood Bank,
  • Physiotherapy,
  • Dentistry.

Grand Turk will have a 'stat' laboratory undertaking routine and urgent haematology and clinical chemistry tests. Providenciales will have a full pathology service, with immunochemistry, microbiology, histopathology, cytopathology and post mortem services being provided in addition to haematology and clinical chemistry.

Advanced imaging will be available at the Providenciales Centre, with the provision of Computerised Axial Tomography (CAT) scanning and Magnetic Resonance (MR) scanning services.

The Centres will be operated initially by over 150 multi-disciplinary clinical staff including employees from the existing hospitals on Grand Turk and Providenciales as well as visiting consultants for specialist clinics. A further 40 people will operate the FM services.

The construction process is nearing completion, following which we will operate the facilities for a further 23 years. In addition we will ensure that the facilities are accredited by Accreditation Canada within two years from opening.
